Course overview:

Amplify your profile and promote your message by getting on the speaking circuit and delivering great presentations. This one-day workshop will show you how to identify, target and secure relevant public speaking opportunities. You’ll learn to create high impact, relevant content that aligns with your personal strengths and professional objectives. You’ll structure a presentation using the best-practice techniques taught to TED speakers and get coaching and feedback on your delivery style.

You will develop:

  • A twelve month public speaking plan including a list of target events and conferences and an understanding of how to approach and pitch yourself to speak at these opportunities.
  • A list of five potential stand-out speaking topics and an outline of your master keynote address.
  • Delivery techniques, coaching and personal feedback designed to support you to deliver high-impact presentations on stage.
  • An understanding of how to leverage each speaking opportunity to secure broader publicity and promotion amongst your target network.
  • Knowledge of how to approach and select a speaking agent, how agencies work and how to earn income as a public speaker.
  • Learn how to attract and deliver relevant speaking engagements.
  • Understand how media works and how to position yourself as a go to person for journalists.
  • Understand how to leverage your personal brand to support your professional career objectives.
  • Learn how to protect your personal and professional reputation online and navigate the social landscape without compromising your professional or your personal identity

Workshop curriculum

Module 1: Select and pitch relevant speaking opportunities

  • Understand how events, conferences and speaking opportunities work for speakers
  • What kind of presentations are on offer? (including keynotes, panel discussions, MC etc) and identify which events are right for you
  • How to contact organisers and present yourself as a potential speaker
  • What tools will you need? Create a compelling speakers bio and photo
  • How to brief event organisers correctly

Module 2: Structure an ideal presentation

  • Understand the structure of an effective presentation and, in particular a keynote address
  • Identify the right presentation tools for you
  • Identify your signature topic/s
  • Create an outline of your master keynote

Module 3: Deliver an authentic talk

  • Learn delivery techniques taught to TED speakers
  • Practice your presentation delivery and receive live feedback
  • Improving your panel performance
  • How to interview someone else on stage
  • Handling audience questions and feedback

Module 4: Leverage speaking opportunities to sell, gain further promotion and / or earn income

  • How to use publicity and social media to leverage your talk
  • How to follow up a public presentation
  • Sell from the stage – when and how to do this
  • Get paid to speak – how to take things to the next level
  • How to approach and work with a speaking agency.

Workshop logistics

This workshop is one day and is limited to twelve participants, enabling Fleur to focus on your speaking objectives, presentation structure and delivery style. Fleur delivers the course in person, weaving in real-life examples from her work over the past two decades. This is a very interactive day and we ask that participants arrive open to giving and receiving input and feedback. You will walk away with a clear plan and an understanding of how to advance your skills and opportunities as a public speaker. This workshop is held in an awesome CBD boardroom and runs from 9 am– 5.00 pm with short breaks. Lunch and morning tea is provided.
