Course overview

Coaching for High Performance is an experiential and practical two day learning workshop, integrating neuroscience and psychology with tried and tested coaching methodologies, feedback and difficult conversation approaches. You’ll take a journey from understanding how your brain works, to being aware of the power of your own habits and your effect on others, to then learning remarkably effective tools and coaching techniques you can use every day to be a better leader and have more engaged and productive teams.  The second day of the program builds on Day 1 and focuses on how to have difficult conversations and provide impactful feedback. There are lots of opportunities for practice and we run simulations to ensure you leave feeling really confident to have those conversations you may have been putting off. You will also leave with tools and frameworks you will find valuable on your leadership journeys.

Why Coaching For High Performance? 

As a company grows, complexity increases. Managers can become the bottleneck, feeling like they should have all the answers. Coaching will allow you to have more transformative conversations with your team to help them tap into their own skills and experience and to prioritize what will be most impactful.

Being able to empower your team to ‘do and contribute’ more will increase everyone’s velocity. But leaders need to do more than empower, they also need to have the skills and confidence to have difficult conversations and to provide meaningful feedback to help people perform at their best. Day 2 of the workshop builds on the coaching skills you’ll learn in Day 1 and provides you with the ‘how’ to do this, as well as give you plenty of opportunities to practise.

  • An understanding of the fundamental issue leaders face in scaling their impact and how what worked for you in the past is probably the thing holding you back now

  •  An appreciation of brain basics that impact learning, fight or flight response and how habits form

  • The components and practice of world class coaching and when to coach someone vs using other methods such as directing, mentoring, teaching etc.

  • The skills to actively listen to create transformational rather than transactional relationships  

  • The tools and methods for diagnosing and focusing on coaching issues

  • An appreciation of the types of difficult conversation we need to have and why, as well as an understanding of which ones cause you the most challenges

  • Emotional awareness and management strategies

  • Processes and tools to help you prepare and have a difficult conversation constructively 

  • How to provide impactful feedback using the SBI model and a coaching approach

About the expert

Claire Hatton is Co-Founder of Full Potential Labs, a next gen leadership development company. She has developed and led global coaching programs for Google, Twitter, Salesforce and Pinterest, amongst others. Claire is also a Non-Executive Director of 3PLearning, an ASX listed EdTech company and co-host of the Don’t Stop Us Now!podcast. Prior to starting Full Potential Labs, Claire led large teams across Asia Pacific and most recently was on the Google Leadership team for 7 years as Sales Director. Claire is an accredited coach and has a passion for the brain which led to her studying Neuroscience with the NeuroLeadership Group.

Module 2: What does world class coaching look like?

  • What is coaching?
  • The two key skills of great coaches
  • Are you really listening? How to listen better
  • What makes a great coaching question and why
  • The GROW coaching process
  • When does coaching work best? Using the skill/will matrix

Module 3: Putting all together 

  • Putting all the coaching skills together - this will be videoed so participants can reflect on what they do well and what they could improve
  • What are your key takeaways? What will you do differently?
  • How to integrate coaching into your day to day
  • The key to changing your habits

 

Day 2: 

Module 4: Review of insights and learnings from day 1

  • Key learnings from watching video from day 1
  • Burning questions about coaching
  • Coaching practice framed around a difficult conversation

Module 5: Why are some conversations so difficult?

  • How many conversations do you put off? What makes a conversation difficult?
  • Emotional and physical symptoms related to difficult conversations. Techniques to manage emotions
  • The importance of trust and how to build it
  • How to ensure your difficult conversations go well
  • What not to do

Module 6: How to improve impactful feedback

  • The three different types of feedback
  • Introducing the SBI framework
  • How to use SBI with a coaching approach
  • The importance of positive feedback and balance

Module 7: Putting it all together 

  • Forming your action plan
  • How to keep yourself accountable
  • Learning reflections 

Workshop logistics

This workshop is two ¾ days and is delivered inside your business. Claire delivers the course in person, weaving in real-life examples from her career and experience working with fast-moving tech companies. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions particular to their objectives by email in the week leading up to the workshop and Claire will personalise the content and exercises to address everyone’s goals.   At the end of the course you will walk away with a clear action plan that you will be able to implement immediately.
